PLANNED GIVING

Help us change the face of aging by remembering the Carter Burden Network in your will. Join the Carter Burden Network Legacy Circle.

The Carter Burden Legacy Circle was formed to provide a way for you to support the Carter Burden Network’s mission to promote the safety and dignity of older adults for generations to come.  By choosing one of the many ways to plan a gift to the Carter Burden Network that are listed below, you will become part of the Legacy Circle and we will honor and recognize you in many ways, including prominent placement on the Legacy Circle Plaque.

Ways to become a member of the Carter Burden Legacy Circle:

  • Bequests from Wills and Trusts

    • You can designate the "Carter Burden Network" as a beneficiary in your will or trust.

    • The most common way people remember our organization in a will or living trust is through a charitable bequest. Here is some suggested language you can have your attorney review: “I give and bequeath the Carter Burden Network, located in New York City, tax identification number 23-7129499, $_________” (or state a percentage of your estate, or describe real or personal property, including exact location). Your bequest is entirely under your control during life and becomes irrevocable only at death. If you have questions about bequests, call the Development Office at (212) 879-7400.

  • Payable on Death Accounts

    • A very simple way to plan your gift is by designating the “Carter Burden Network” as a beneficiary of your bank account or investment account. Your bank or financial institution will have a simple form for you to fill out where you can list the “Carter Burden Network” as a beneficiary of any portion of your account assets

  • Retirement Plan Assets

    • A designation in your IRA or other retirement plan may be a very cost-effective way of making a gift to our organization. If you leave your retirement account to your children, they will have to pay income tax on either a lump sum distribution or the income stream from the plan. The Carter Burden Network does not pay this tax. You can designate the "Carter Burden Network” as the beneficiary of all, or a portion, of your IRA, 401(k), 403(b) and any other retirement plans, which will allow for a tax-free gift to the Carter Burden Network.

  • Life Insurance

    • You can designate the "Carter Burden Network" on your beneficiary form.

  • Charitable Remainder Trust

    • A charitable remainder trust allows you to receive a tax-deduction while receiving principal income for he rest of your life.

    • There are two basic types of charitable remainder trusts

    • An annuity trust will pay you a fixed dollar amount for the rest of your life.

    • A unitrust will pay you a fixed percentage of the trust principal each year, so if the value of the trust principal increases over time, your income increases with it.

    • Charitable Remainder Trusts are a more sophisticated way to give you and you will have to consult an attorney to draft.

  • Other Methods of Planning Your Gift

    • For information on these and other methods of giving to the Carter Burden Network, please consult your attorney or a financial advisor or call us at (212) 879-7400.
